Building homegrown talent is the name of the game for SaskPower. Students scattered throughout Southeast Cornerstone School Division are completing two high school credits: Introduction to Power Engineering 20L and 30L and are preparing to challenge industry recognized 5th Class Power Engineering Certification in June. The past two years have seen students from Weyburn, Yellow Grass, Stoughton, Gladmar, Carnduff, Moosomin, Radville, Rocanville, Lampman, Oxbow, and Estevan participate in this career exploration experience.
The blended learning delivery model allows students the opportunity to explore Power Engineering pathways along with other trades regardless of geographical location. Each course consists of 50-60 hours online theory and 50 hours work-study at a SaskPower plant and mobile steam lab.
South East Cornerstone Public School Division in partnership with Prairie South Schools and SaskPower will continue to offer this opportunity to Grade 11 and 12 students in Southeast Cornerstone.
